Cathartic (laxative) works to help relieve constipation. There are four types of commonly used laxatives.
The fourth type of laxatives are bulk-forming, osmotic, stimulant, and stool softener.
1. Bulk-Forming Laxative
The fiber contained in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains helps move stool through the intestines.

3. stimulant Laxative
Stimulant laxatives stimulate the bowel movement. Increased bowel movements make the stool more easily removed.

4. Stool Softener Laxative
Stool softener laxatives (stool softener) works by drawing water into the stool.
The water softens the stool making it easier for dirt to move through the intestines. This laxative takes about 1 to 2 days to work.
